Fed. Circ. Junks Infringement Finding In Lighting Patent Row

Law360, New York (January 2, 2013, 8:17 PM EST) -- The Federal Circuit on Wednesday reversed a district court judgment that Universal Lighting Technologies Inc. infringed a Lighting Ballast Control LLC patent regarding fluorescent lighting, saying the patent claims were invalid for indefiniteness.

A three-judge panel said a term in the patent invoked means-plus-function claiming but failed to specify a corresponding structure necessary for such claims, rendering it invalid for indefiniteness.
