Watchdog Tells McDonald's To Pull SpongeBob Happy Meal Ad

Law360, New York (January 3, 2013, 3:30 PM EST) -- The Children's Advertising Review Unit recommended Thursday that McDonald's Corp. nix a television commercial for its Happy Meal product that focused on the SpongeBob SquarePants toys included in each meal rather than on the product's food contents.

Under its guidelines, advertising that contains a “premium message” should focus the child's attention primarily on the product, with the premium message taking a secondary position, according to the regulator, which is an investigative unit of the advertising industry's self-regulatory program administered by the Council of Better Business Bureaus....
