AmEx, Discover Policies 'Screw' Consumers, Plaintiffs Tell Judge

Law360, New York (January 7, 2013, 8:34 PM EST) -- The lead plaintiff in actions accusing American Express Co, Citibank NA and Discover Bank of colluding to implement arbitration agreements on credit card holders told a New York federal judge on the first day of trial Monday that the companies’ policies “screw the American consumer” and should be stopped.

Plaintiff Robert Ross said that the binding arbitration agreements deprive consumers of a right to bring credit card disputes before courts and said that the arbitration venues were unfairly biased toward the interest of credit card companies....
