France Looks To Build 1 GW Of New Offshore Wind Power

Law360, New York (January 9, 2013, 9:50 PM EST) -- The French government said Tuesday it soon will accept applications to build one gigawatt worth of wind power infrastructure off its Atlantic coasts, a €3.5 billion (US$4.6 billion) project that aims to help France transition from nuclear power generation.

France's Energy Regulation Commission is billing the tender as an extension of the wind power initiative it undertook last spring, when it awarded €7 billion in contracts to build four offshore wind farms with a combined generating capacity of nearly two gigawatts.
