Dish Offers Up $5B For Clearwire, Topping Sprint Bid

Law360, San Diego (January 8, 2013, 9:57 PM EST) -- Colorado-based Dish Network Corp. made an unsolicited offer to purchase broadband Internet service provider Clearwire Corp. for about $5 billion Tuesday, outdoing a bid by Sprint Nextel Corp.

Washington-based Clearwire plans to engage in discussions with Dish about the satellite-TV company’s proposed $3.30-a-share bid for outstanding stock in the firm, but it noted that it was “significantly limited” in part by its agreement with Sprint, which seeks to acquire the half of Clearwire it does not already own for $2.97 per share in a buyout offer...
