Google Drops ITC Essential-Patent Claims Against Microsoft

Law360, New York (January 9, 2013, 1:32 PM EST) -- Google Inc.'s Motorola Mobility Inc. on Tuesday moved to drop two patent claims against Microsoft Corp. in its fight at the U.S. International Trade Commission over Microsoft's Xbox, following the Federal Trade Commission's settlement restricting Google from seeking injunctions over standard-essential patents.

Motorola asked the ITC to terminate its investigation with respect to U.S. Patent Numbers 6,980,596 and 7,162,094, leaving only one patent, which is not standard-essential, in the Xbox investigation.
