Photo IDs Exempt From Pa. Right To Know Law, Judge Says

Law360, Philadelphia (January 14, 2013, 5:19 PM EST) -- The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court ruled Monday that individuals’ drivers licenses and government-issued photo IDs are not categorized as public records, denying an attorney’s request under the state’s Right To Know Law to obtain records of the licenses issued by the state.

Marian Schneider, a staff attorney for the Advancement Project, sought the information to calculate the number of nondriver photo identification cards Pennsylvania would have to issue under the state’s voter ID law, which requires voters to provide photo identification to cast ballots.
