Circuit Affirms Motorola's $1B Award Against Uzans

Law360, New York (November 21, 2007, 12:00 AM EST) -- An appellate court has upheld a $1 billion punitive damage award for Motorola Inc. against the Uzan family of Turkey, which allegedly defrauded the telecommunications company out of $2 billion in loans.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday affirmed the award after finding that a lower court did not abuse its discretion under Illinois law and the U.S. Constitution in awarding the punitive damages.
