AT&T's $780M Spectrum Buy Fuels Broadband War

Law360, New York (January 22, 2013, 6:35 PM EST) -- AT&T Inc. said Tuesday that it would buy Atlantic Tele-Network Inc.'s U.S. wireless business for $780 million in cash, the latest big airwaves grab as America's telecom giants bulk up their wireless spectrums.

AT&T will gain spectrum in the 700- and 800-megahertz range — particularly valuable for its ability to penetrate buildings — as well as bandwidth in the 1,900-megahertz range, which it said is “largely complementary” to its existing network.
