4th Circ. Refuses To Unseal WikiLeaks Wiretap Orders

Law360, New York (January 25, 2013, 6:53 PM EST) -- The Fourth Circuit on Thursday rejected an attempt by three people associated with WikiLeaks to unseal requests made by the government to several companies for access to their personal electronic information, saying First Amendment rights don't guarantee access to such documents.

The unanimous appeals panel further determined that, in this instance, the common law right of access to a series of court orders issued by federal judges under the Stored Communications Act is outweighed by a countervailing interest in protecting the government's ongoing WikiLeaks investigation....
