EU To Study Clashing Insurance Laws' Impact On Trade

Law360, New York (January 31, 2013, 9:13 PM EST) -- The European Commission said Thursday it would examine whether differences in contract laws across member states are seriously discouraging cross-border trade in insurance products, as officials contemplate creating an optional uniform insurance contract law for Europe.

The EC is calling for experts to study the stark shortage of insurance products that are available across European Union borders.

The expert group will bring together insurance companies, consumer and business representatives, lawyers, academics and other key stakeholders to look at whether variations in member states' insurance contract laws...
