Indie Record Trade Group Exits Sirius Antitrust Suit

Law360, New York (February 4, 2013, 6:53 PM EST) -- Sirius XM Radio Inc. reached a settlement with the American Association of Independent Music on Thursday, resolving its suit claiming the trade group had taken part in an “industrywide conspiracy” to inflate music licensing rates.

The agreement between Sirius and the association, known as A2IM, leaves just copyright collective SoundExchange Inc. to face the satellite radio company's allegations that the two groups violated antitrust laws by telling record companies not to sign direct-licensing deals with Sirius rather than use the collectives' negotiating services.
