US Tells WTO India Unfairly Blocks Solar Equipment

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 1:42 PM EST) -- The U.S. has filed a World Trade Organization complaint alleging that India's requirements that solar developers use domestically made equipment is unfairly restricting American solar exports, the U.S. trade representative said Wednesday.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk said in a statement that the U.S. has requested formal consultations — the first step in the WTO's dispute settlement process — over so-called domestic content requirements in India's solar program.
