EU Rule Would Require Cos. To Report Data Breaches

Law360, New York (February 6, 2013, 10:52 PM EST) -- A proposed European Union rule would reportedly require banks, hospitals and other private companies that store personal data to report data breaches to government authorities, according to leaked drafts of the European Commission's Cyber Security Strategy scheduled for release Thursday.

The rule requires businesses to notify national authorities during cyberattacks as well as any incident with a “significant impact on services,” according to a report from IDG news service.
