Texas Bill Floats Public Financing For Judicial Elections

Law360, Houston (February 11, 2013, 10:07 PM EST) -- A Texas lawmaker on Friday proposed legislation that gives judicial candidates seeking state appellate benches access to public campaign funds while also aiming to restrict their ability to accept politically motivated donations from law firms and big business.

Authored by Rep. Rafael Anchia, D-Dallas, HB 1126 would create a campaign financing system for qualifying Texas appellate bench seekers that offers the option of using public funds alone to run for office, in an effort to remove political influence from the courthouse.
