Aryeh V. Canon: Impact On Calif.’s Unfair Competition Law

Law360, New York (February 15, 2013, 3:52 PM ET) -- The California Supreme Court, in Aryeh v. Canon Business Solutions Inc. (Jan. 24, 2013), resolved a split in the lower appellate courts over the applicability of common law rules of accrual to the statute of limitations in California’s Unfair Competition Law (Cal. B&P Code § 17200, “UCL”). The UCL broadly prohibits all “unlawful, fraudulent or unfair” business acts or practices, and the statute provides that a UCL suit must be filed “within four years after the cause of action accrued.”
