Energy Cos. Won't Find Cybersecurity Maxims Just Voluntary

Law360, New York (February 26, 2013, 8:16 PM EST) -- In rolling out his cybersecurity regime, President Barack Obama promised the energy sector his new standards would be voluntary, but industry attorneys aren't so sure, worrying their clients will risk legal action from federal and state regulators, or even shareholders, if they fail to adhere strictly to the suggested guidelines.

The executive order signed by Obama earlier this month pushes federal regulators to work with power grid operators and others that operate vital national infrastructure to develop voluntary standards to defend against cyberattacks.
