Fla. House Panel OKs Expert Witness Standards Bill

Law360, Miami (February 15, 2013, 8:38 PM EST) -- A Florida House of Representatives panel passed a bill Wednesday that would change how the state's courts evaluate the admissibility of expert witness testimony, shifting from the Frye standard followed since 1923 to the Daubert standard used in federal courts.

The Civil Justice Subcommittee's approval of House Bill 7015, was expected, as the panel also filed the bill as Proposed Committee Bill 13-02. But as the 8-4 vote and a contentious debate at a Wednesday's hearing demonstrated, success is far from certain.
