Compounding Group Open To Oversight Talks With FDA

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 7:06 PM EST) -- The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists said Friday that it's willing to discuss the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's desire to define some compounders that resemble drug manufacturers as "nontraditional compounding pharmacies" and subject them to FDA oversight.

The industry group said it is "supportive of a discussion about the creation of a category of nontraditional manufacturing." But it hasn't adopted a formal position on the issue and insists that compounding pharmacies should still be regulated by state boards of pharmacy.
