Torys Aids Brookfield In Hostile Takeover Of Western Wind

Law360, New York (February 22, 2013, 9:45 PM EST) -- Canadian renewable energy company Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP has advanced in its hostile pursuit of wind and solar energy company Western Wind Energy Corp. and now owns nearly two-thirds of its shares, Brookfield said late Thursday.

Brookfield overcame months-long opposition from Western Wind in snapping up 59.7 percent of the common shares in the company by its shareholders, at a $2.60-per-share price tag, it said in a statement today. The move brings its total ownership to more than 66 percent of Western Wind shares. A...
