Fla. Port Panel Backs Deeper River Dredging Plan

Law360, Miami (February 25, 2013, 9:43 PM EST) -- The Jacksonville Port Authority's board of directors voted Monday to dredge the St. Johns River channel to a depth of 47 feet, which would allow the port to compete in the race to attract shipping traffic after the expansion of the Panama Canal is complete.

Jaxport interim CEO Roy Schleicher said the board members unanimously voted to supply “additional local investment” to dredge the harbor deep enough to stay competitive.
