New Anti-Piracy System Likely To Draw Legal Challenges

Law360, New York (February 26, 2013, 7:51 PM EST) -- An anti-piracy system launched Monday by the film and music industries that will slow down the Internet connections of users who repeatedly download content illegally is likely to spur litigation challenging Internet service providers' authority to impinge on users' Internet access, attorneys say.

The entertainment industry worked with the largest Internet service providers to develop the Copyright Alert System, which they say will deter piracy by sending warning notices to users who download copyrighted content, with multiple warnings leading to a reduction in Internet speed....
