Deepwater Rig Safety Was Shared Duty, BP Exec Testifies

Law360, New Orleans (February 26, 2013, 10:59 PM EST) -- A top BP PLC executive admitted Tuesday that the Deepwater Horizon explosion and blowout was a known risk, but he insisted in testimony on day two of a trial over the disaster that the company and its contractors shared responsibility for safety on the rig.

“What happened on Macondo was a tragic accident of a risk that was identified,” said Lamar McKay, the chief of BP’s upstream business who headed the company’s U.S. unit when the well blew out.
