Shell Halts Alaska Drilling Activity In 2013 Amid Safety Woes

Law360, New York (February 27, 2013, 10:44 PM EST) -- Royal Dutch Shell PLC will shelve its Alaska drilling plans just for 2013, the oil giant announced Wednesday, following the technical and safety problems that have beset Shell Noble Discoverer vessel it planned to use for offshore Arctic drilling. 

The oil giant said it would halt its exploration drilling operations this year in the Beaufort and Chukchi seas off Alaska while it addresses its equipment issues, according to a company statement. It said it would continue the drilling activity at a “later stage.”
