Texas Lawmaker Seeks Adoption Of Uniform Trade Secrets Act

Law360, Houston (March 4, 2013, 6:07 PM EST) -- A Texas lawmaker on Thursday proposed legislation aimed at strengthening companies' arsenals against the theft of confidential business information by imposing stricter penalties against trade secret misappropriation.

Authored by Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas, S.B. 953 seeks adoption of the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, which would codify and modernize existing Texas common law relating to misappropriation of trade secrets, while enhancing available remedies to aggrieved businesses, according to Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP partner Val Perkins.
