FCC Promotes Plan To Free Up Airwaves For Mobile Services

Law360, New York (March 12, 2013, 7:07 PM EDT) -- Members of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission on Tuesday stressed the importance of freeing airwaves currently controlled by the federal government so that they can be used by private sector mobile and broadband service providers.

Addressing the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation — which conducted an oversight hearing with the five FCC members — several commissioners discussed different means of allowing private use of some of the airwaves, or spectrum, presently controlled by the U.S. government.
