NY Senate Supports Legalizing Mixed Martial Arts

Law360, New York (March 6, 2013, 7:13 PM EST) -- Mixed martial arts moved toward legalization in New York on Wednesday as the state Senate passed legislation permitting it and, perhaps more importantly, a powerful foe of the multibillion-dollar sport in the state Assembly suggesting that its arrival is inevitable.

The 47-14 Senate vote approved legislation to allow the New York State Athletic Commission to authorize and regulate mixed martial arts fights put on by businesses including the well-known Ultimate Fighting Championship.
