Pa. Justices Boot Law Eliminating Jury Commissioners

Law360, New York (March 14, 2013, 7:54 PM EDT) -- The Pennsylvania Supreme Court Thursday invalidated a state law allowing counties to abolish the office of jury commissioner, ruling that it violates the single subject rule of the state’s constitution.

The court overturned an en banc decision by the state’s Commonwealth Court that upheld the 2011 law, in which the provision enabling officials to eliminate the seat was attached to a law allowing county commissioners to sell personal property and surplus farm products.
