Tesoro Pays $11.6M To End Meal Break Suit

Law360, New York (March 19, 2013, 7:26 PM EDT) -- Tesoro Refining & Marketing Co. will pay $11.6 million to more than 700 California refinery employees who accused the petroleum refiner of denying them proper meal breaks on long shifts, according to a settlement filed Friday in California federal court.

The agreement will put to rest years of fighting in two now-consolidated lawsuits that claimed Tesoro violated California's wage-and-hour laws by not fully relieving employees for two 30-minute breaks during a 12-hour shift.
