National Oilwell Can't Arbitrate Supply Contract Row: Judge

Law360, Houston (March 18, 2013, 11:13 PM EDT) -- A Texas federal judge on Monday ruled a Norwegian unit of National Oilwell Varco Inc. did not have a valid arbitration agreement with a Saudi Arabian oil investment company that says it was duped into signing supply agreements whose pricing was inflated through a bribery scheme.

U.S. District Judge Keith P. Ellison denied a motion to compel arbitration urged by National Oilwell Varco Norway AS, finding that a reference in one of its agreements with Al Rushaid Petroleum Investment Corp. and Al Rushaid Parker Drilling Inc....
