Deals Rumor Mill: Dell, KKR, RBS

By Karlee Weinmann (March 21, 2013, 12:28 PM EDT) -- Private equity titan Blackstone Group LP is clamping down on its plans to lob a counterbid at Dell Inc. that could thwart the proposed $24.4 billion joint takeover by the company's founder and Silicon Valley's Silver Lake Partners, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. According to several unnamed sources, Blackstone has held talks with several prospective partners, Texas-based TPG Capital among them. The firm has also approached Dell investor Southeastern Asset Management Inc. — a staunch foe to the Silver Lake buy — about rolling over its 8.4 percent stake in a new deal. The New York private equity firm has sketched out plans to oust founder Michael Dell from his CEO spot. Fortune fingered former WorldCom Inc. CEO Michael Capellas as a frontrunner for the company's top executive post under a Blackstone regime....
