Benckiser In Talks For $9.7B Dutch Coffee Co. Takeover

Law360, New York (March 28, 2013, 1:47 PM EDT) -- Investment firm Joh. A. Benckiser GmbH is seeking to beef up its growing beverage portfolio through the €7.6 billion ($9.7 billion) purchase of Dutch coffee maker D.E. Master Blenders, a Sara Lee Corp. spinoff, the company said Thursday.

The pair is in talks over a potential deal, which would round out JAB's existing 15 percent stake by offering Master Blenders shareholders €12.75 for each of their units — roughly a 33 percent premium over Wednesday's close.
