Law360, New York (March 29, 2013, 10:28 AM EDT) -- A number of years ago, a woman in Winter Park, Fla., watched as a sycamore tree in her yard disappeared as if it had been sucked into the ground by its roots. Recently, the bedroom of a house in Seffner, Fla., not far from Tampa, collapsed into a hole that had suddenly opened up beneath it. Tragically, the homeowner was killed in the collapse. More recently, still, a golfer was standing on the 14th fairway of Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill., waiting to take his third shot, when the ground underneath his feet gave way and he vanished into a 15-foot-deep pit. He survived the fall, but suffered a dislocated shoulder....
