US Eases Restrictions On European Poultry

Law360, New York (March 28, 2013, 6:31 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture declared most of the European Union free of two highly contagious avian illnesses Thursday, allowing regulators to ease import restrictions on poultry and fertilized eggs.

The department's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service issued a final rule in a preview of Friday's Federal Register that designated 25 of the EU's 27 member states completely free of Newcastle disease and highly pathogenic avian influenza, two deadly and fast-spreading bird diseases that can devastate poultry producers.
