Law Firm Mergers Near 4-Year High In Q1

Law360, New York (April 4, 2013, 7:40 PM EDT) -- The U.S. legal industry has been on a shopping spree of late, with the highest number of law firm tie-ups and buy-ups in a single quarter since 2009, according to a tally released Thursday, a list dominated by large firms making targeted absorptions of far smaller operations.

Twenty-one firm mergers and acquisitions were announced between Jan. 1 and March 31, according to legal consultant Altman Weil's MergerLine tally, the highest number of combinations in a quarter since the beginning of  2009, which saw 25.
