DOD To Continue Controversial Russian Chopper Purchases

Law360, New York (April 4, 2013, 6:11 PM EDT) -- The Pentagon has decided to continue buying MI-17 transport helicopters for the Afghan military from Russian state-owned Rosoboronexport, despite a Congressional uproar over its arms sales to Syria, saying Thursday that its urgent need to equip Afghanistan’s counterterrorism forces overrode the political concerns.

Several lawmakers from both parties, including Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., had questioned the the U.S. Department of Defense's plans after learning of Rosoboronexport's sales to the Assad regime in Syria, which is engaged in a bloody civil war....
