Samsung's ChatON App Targeted In Patent Infringement Suit

Law360, New York (April 4, 2013, 8:10 PM EDT) -- A Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. subsidiary was sued Tuesday for offering on its mobile devices messaging services, including its popular ChatON application, that allegedly violate three patents held by a Texas-based company.

Mobile Telecommunications Technologies LLC, which says it owns a portfolio of former SkyTel Communications technology, sued Samsung Telecommunications America LLC for maintaining networks that carry ChatON, MMS text messaging and XMPP-based messaging services. The lawsuit also targets Samsung applications providing email services such as Hotmail and Microsoft Exchange.
