EU Countries To Launch Anti-Tax Evasion Pilot Program

Law360, New York (April 9, 2013, 4:49 PM EDT) -- The U.K. and four other major European countries have agreed to develop a tax information exchange designed to both detect and deter tax evasion through the automatic sharing of bank information between the countries, the U.K. Treasury announced Tuesday.

The exchange, a joint pilot program of the U.K., France, Germany, Italy and Spain, will require banks in the five countries to share a range of account information with tax officials, including account holders’ names, account balances, transactions and other personal details, according to the countries....
