Judge Taps NYU Prof To Help Mull $7B Visa, MasterCard Deal

Law360, New York (April 10, 2013, 3:59 PM EDT) -- A New York federal judge on Monday appointed an independent expert to provide advice regarding a proposed $7.25 billion class action settlement meant to resolve allegations that Visa Inc. and MasterCard Inc. charged excessive swipe fees to merchants that accept their cards.

U.S. District Judge John Gleeson issued an order appointing Alan O. Sykes, a New York University law professor, “to advise the court with respect to any economic issues that may arise in connection with the forthcoming motion for final approval of the proposed settlement.”...
