'Kids For Cash' Class Barred By Comcast, Prison Cos. Say

Law360, New York (April 15, 2013, 8:06 PM EDT) -- Three juvenile detention center operators named as defendants in litigation over Pennsylvania's infamous “kids for cash” scandal asked a federal judge on Monday to deny class certification in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling in Comcast Corp. v. Behrend.

PA Child Care LLC, Western Pennsylvania Child Care LLC and Mid-Atlantic Youth Services Corp. said the proposed class of juveniles allegedly harmed by the judicial kickback plot was exactly the kind of “liability-only” class the justices forbade March 27 in the Comcast ruling.
