Senate Energy Committee Greenlights DOE Nominee Moniz

Law360, New York (April 18, 2013, 1:31 PM EDT) -- Massachusetts Institute of Technology physicist Ernest Moniz on Thursday moved one step closer to becoming the next U.S. energy secretary as President Barack Obama's nominee was easily approved by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

All but one of the committee's 22 members — Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C. — voted to move Moniz's nomination to the full Senate, where he is expected to be easily confirmed.
