Cigna-Insured Judge Denies Conflict In Reduced Benefits Suit

Law360, New York (April 16, 2013, 3:19 PM EDT) -- A New Jersey federal judge, who recently became insured by Cigna Corp., will not recuse himself from a putative class action accusing the insurance company of using manipulated data to reduce employer-sponsored health benefits, he said Monday.

U.S. District Judge Stanley Chesler said he would continue to preside over a case alleging Cigna conspired with UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Ingenix Inc. to deflate out-of-network reimbursement rates, leading to higher medical bills for patients and lower compensation for doctors.
