FDA Proposes OK Of Usage Symbols On Medical Devices

Law360, New York (April 19, 2013, 6:06 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Friday issued a proposed rule that would allow sponsors of medical devices to incorporate symbols in their labeling, a change requested by the industry in order to make device labels more user-friendly and easier to understand in multiple languages.

Under the proposed rule, device sponsors can incorporate stand-alone symbols into their labels as long as the symbols are developed by a specialized group like the American National Standards Institute and the International Organization for Standardization.
