NY Judges Punished For Misdeeds Increased In 2012: Report

Law360, New York (April 22, 2013, 7:18 PM EDT) -- The number of New York judges punished for misconduct and other lapses rose slightly last year over 2011, and included one judge who was removed from the bench for jailing five people without due process, according to an annual commission report released Thursday.

In a 30-page annual report from the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct found 1,785 new complaints were filed last year, down slightly from the 1,818 filed in 2011. The commission responded with 460 preliminary inquiries and 182 formal investigations.
