Lawmakers Leery Of Heart Doc's TV Plug For Lipitor

Law360, New York (January 8, 2008, 12:00 AM EST) -- A congressional committee has launched an investigation into Pfizer Inc.'s use of celebrity doctor Robert Jarvik to plug its blockbuster cholesterol drug Lipitor in TV advertisements.

Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., who chairs the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, announced the investigation Monday, saying he was worried viewers were being misled by the appearance of the heart specialist, whose medical credentials have been questioned.

“We are concerned that consumers might be misled by Pfizer's television ads for Lipitor starring Dr. Jarvik,” Dingell said in a statement....
