Bankruptcy Filings Down 14% Over Past Year

Law360, New York (April 29, 2013, 4:42 PM ET) -- Bankruptcy filings across the country have continued their downward trend, falling 14.4 percent over the last year, according to a report released Monday by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

In the 12-month period ending March 31, more than 1,170,000 individuals and businesses filed for bankruptcy, falling from the 1,367,000 filed during the same time period the year before. The March 31, 2012, figure was also a drop from 2011, when a little more than 1,571,00 filings were submitted.
