Lawsuits Make Company Worth More Dead Than Alive

Law360, New York (October 31, 2005, 12:00 AM EST) -- Volumetrics Medical Imaging may be defunct, but thanks to continuing intellectual property litigation the company is more profitable now than it was when it actually existed.

Last week, the company, which folded in 2001, filed a suit against several major international companies, alleging they infringed six of its patents for 3-D ultrasound technology.

The companies named in the suit, GE Healthcare LTD., Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc., Medison America Inc., and Siemens Medical Solutions USA, Inc., have over $60 billion in combined annual revenues.
