NASA Signs $424M Russian Deal, Delays Private Space Plan

Law360, New York (May 2, 2013, 3:50 PM EDT) -- NASA on Tuesday signed a $424 million contract extension with Russian space agency Roscosmos, which transports U.S. astronauts to and from the International Space Station, delaying a plan to turn over astronaut transportation to U.S. contractors by 2015.

NASA has relied on Russia's Soyuz spacecraft to transport its astronauts since the retirement of the space shuttles in 2011, and plans to use commercial launches from U.S.-based companies as a short-term solution while it develops a next-generation manned spacecraft capable of reaching farther into the solar system....
