Mercury Insurance Dealt Setback In Fight With Calif. Regulator

Law360, New York (May 6, 2013, 6:19 PM EDT) -- A California appeals court ruled recently that Mercury Insurance Co. could not yet challenge an order from the California insurance commissioner that kept alive a battle over whether the insurer collected improper premiums, the regulator said Thursday.

The court held that Mercury needed to exhaust its administrative remedies before it could protest California Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones' decision to reject Mercury's victory before an administrative law judge on the claims.
