GOP Senators Derail EPA Nominee Vote With Boycott

Law360, New York (May 9, 2013, 12:52 PM EDT) -- The eight Republican Senators sitting on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee blocked Tuesday's confirmation vote on the White House's pick to lead the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by refusing to show up, claiming nominee Gina McCarthy hasn't answered all of their questions.

The GOP lawmakers say McCarthy has failed to respond to “very reasonable and basic requests” focusing on the EPA's openness and transparency. Their absence left the committee short of the minimum number of lawmakers required to hold a vote.
